This demonstration has been going on since 1992 without failure every Wednesday in front of the Japanese emebassy. Because it’s been winter and the women are in their 80s and 90s, only KIM and GIL have been coming out to the gathering, but when the weather warms up, more women will come out to participate.

A special ritual by poet and shaman OH, Woo Yeol for the Wednesday Demonstration.
The Wednesday Demonstration has been held ever Wednesday without failure since 1992 demanding formal apology and compensation from the Japanese government. The women, now in their 80s and 90s, have recently decided that they will donate all the compensation to help the Congolese women, the victims of the worst sexual violence in the contemporary world, should the Japanese government apologize and compensate.

오우열 만신인의 수요시위 판굿 (by jykthemuse) 2012.2.15 the 1009th wednesday demonstration was hosted in conjunction with the Committee for Revision of 1965 Korea-Japan Treaty. OH, Wooyeol, a poet n a performative shaman, executes a ‘gut’ to console the women, to criticize the current admin for not taking any action for the sake of these women and to criticize PARK, Jeonghi admin from the 60s for imprudently signing a treaty with Japan in exchange of substantial amount of financial aid from Japan. The treaty is in favor of Japan’s position and has been considered the root of all the historical disputes between the two countries.
