She handed out a couple of CDs with three songs about the sentiments around the bombing incident. For those of you who can read Korean the lyrics of one of the songs called “Yeongpyeong Arirang” goes as follows:
The song basically describes the nostalgic sentiments over the peaceful scenes prior to the bombing. It took me by surprise when I actually listened to the song that the song was fast and upbeat unlike the mellow lyrics.
The gist of the other song was basically saying goodbye to what the island used to be. Understandably so, the people were seized with constant fear as they were fully aware of the possibility of recurring conflicts. Yet asked if they planned or wanted to leave, all of them were very adamant with the stance that it was their home where they were happy with what they were doing and that they shouldn’t have to leave. This quiet fishing town is deeply damaged and the wound is not looked after by enough attention and awareness.
